A Gift for the Smartest Person You Know

‘Breakfast University’ at The New York Historical is a treat for your brain

Today’s newsletter is presented in partnership with Thoughtful Productions’ Breakfast University. We only partner with places and projects we’re excited about, and that we think you’ll be excited about, too.

We’ve been talking about gifts for kids, design fans, jewelry lovers, and food enthusiasts. Now it’s time to talk about someone who’s really tricky to shop for: The history buff, the smartest person you know, the person who’s already read 1929 and listened to every episode of Hardcore History. The friend or relative who’s always looking to stay sharp and informed.

We love them. And now we have the perfect gift for them: a monthly lecture series featuring top university professors, which they can attend in-person in New York City or livestream from wherever they live.

Breakfast University is a new series at The New York Historical that kicks off in January, pairing engaging topics with a light themed breakfast. The lectures are all inspired by America’s 250th birthday (the semiquincentennial, but they probably already knew that).

It’s a great gift for yourself, too. After the holiday hustle and end-of-year rush, I know my brain could use a reset. I love the idea of starting 2026 by diving into history and learning about its implications for today. Is there anything more Jewish?

Here’s a look at this semester’s lectures:
