Adorable Jewish Decor for Kids

Art prints, blankets, and personalized mezuzahs to welcome the littlest Members of the Tribe

Hi GOLDA gang!

My daughter Edith turned four yesterday. Her birthday was a month-long celebration across the tri-state area and I don’t regret one second of it. But amidst the ongoing festivities, I’ve been thinking a lot about one thing: her room.

Her bedroom will very soon—pu pu pu!—have a tiny new occupant. And while I’ve been hung up on practical questions like how we’ll make space in the closet and how we’ll stow diapers and burp cloths alongside hair clips and bracelets, this looming physical transition also has me realizing that the spaces we live in don’t just hold our stuff. These rooms hold the people most important to us.

And just like we always talk about how our favorite Jewish jewelry is not only shiny and beautiful but also deeply meaningful and empowering, so too can our home spaces exude the kind of proud and protective Jewish energy we need more than ever. And nowhere is that more powerful—or, as you’ll see below, adorable—as in a child’s room.

Speaking of those impending life changes, I’ll be taking a bit of time off from the newsletter. Filling in for me will be an all-star roster of GOLDA guest writers sharing their favorite spots, recipes, bling, and more. It’s going to be a lot of fun.

As always, email [email protected] with questions, ideas, and more. I’ll see you on the other side—pu pu pu.

A friend told me about EleyOri, whose Etsy page is filled with whimsical typographical Hebrew prints. I love this pairing of Hebrew and English posters, which would look great above a changing table.

These cute baby blankets from Adara Rituals are made from 50% recycled cotton and 50% recycled polyester yarns. They’re restocking all three colors in September, but if you need it sooner you can find the blue and gold options at Peace Love Light Shop. The Jewish Museum Shop also has the pink and blue in stock.

I’m obsessed with these fun and funky mezuzahs made out of epoxy resin with all sorts of decorations inside. The beaded letters add the perfect personalized touch. You can see all the custom possibilities on the @bypoppsi Instagram.

Citykat Stories makes some of my favorite Israel-based prints, and their mixed media “Into the Jungle” series is a great way to add some Hebrew flair to your standard animal nursery imagery. In addition to the giraffe, they have a zebra, panda, lion, and hippo. (Rooster, alas, is out of stock.)

Suzy Ultman is one of the most fun and bright designers out there, and this Mini Mensch pennant might just be the cutest thing I’ve ever seen. (Her Oy Vey print is a close second.) Pair it as a gift with her board book, I Like Your Chutzpah—or better yet, preorder Suzy’s next book, It’s a Mitzvah!, which comes out in September.
